Summer skincare secrets and must-have treatments

This won’t come as a surprise to you, but summer is in full swing! By now your skin might be paying the price. The team at Spa Shiki have come up with a few tips and ideas on how you can stay healthy and looking your best during the heat of the summer.

Stay Hydrated

First and foremost, drink plenty of water. Even if you are not thirsty. Licensed massage therapist Todd Borron recommends you take it one step further by adding a pinch of Himalayan salt to your H2O. With 84 essential minerals, the salt will enhance the body’s hydration levels helping to delay muscle tightness. Himalayan salt is also known to detoxify the body by balancing pH, supports thyroid and adrenal function, and acts as an antihistamine, among many other health benefits. So drink up!

Wear Sunscreen AND a Hat

Sunscreen is not just for the Lake or outdoor activities. It should be used in your daily beauty routine, even in the winter. It is the most important step to your skincare regime, says Jessica Smith, licensed esthetician and spa director at Spa Shiki.

Even if you are just driving or outside for a short period of time, UV rays can still cause damage to your skin. With melanoma on the rise, it is important to take the extra step to protect your skin. Don’t forget to add a hat to reduce sun exposure to your face.

Moisturize & Repeat

It is imperative to refresh your skin, especially during the summer months. A nighttime hydrating mask a couple of times a week will do the trick, esthetician and stylist Nancy Gordon says. Follow it up with a good moisturizer with hyaluronic acid and ceramides to keep that youthful look. Another great tip is to condition hair with Moroccan oil or coconut oil before getting into the pool.

A few new tropical spa treatments have been added to the menu at Spa Shiki that will help moisturize the skin. The Hydrating Cucumber Facial is loaded with properties to balance the pH of the skin and provide a boost of nourishing antioxidants. This facial will help reduce the appearance of sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles.

Feet often dry out from wearing sandals and spending hours at the beach. The Mango Breeze Pedicure starts off with a whirlpool soak to revive the feet and includes a sea salt exfoliation to soften the skin. This treatment is topped off with a nail color and massage using hydrating lotion.

Scrub, Scrub, Scrub

Esthetician Jessie Moon recommends you include exfoliation into your routine for cleaner, brighter and younger-looking skin. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and keeps up with the skin’s natural cellular turnover rate.

The Peach Mango Body Exfoliation is also a new treatment at the spa that remineralizes and moisturizes skin. Using a sweet, tropical body exfoliation with natural oil-infused sea salt crystals, your skin will be left feeling soft and smooth. After the peach mango mask is applied, a Far Infrared blanket is used to make sure the mask soaks in. A light massage with organic apricot oil will sooth skin and leave you feeling relaxed.

The Supracore Slimming Treatment is a classic spa service but the addition of cucumber oil helps to combat acne and other skin conditions. A full body exfoliation using the trademarked Supracor mitt not only exfoliates, it also helps eliminate lymphatic waste, and nourishes and oxygenates the skin by stimulating circulation and bringing blood to the skin’s surface. A massage follows this treatment using all-natural oils which penetrate deep into the skin.
