Spa Shiki uses only the highest quality, food-grade seaweed in its spa treatments. Perhaps the most nutritional food source the world knows, algae is the base of the food chain and accounts for the production of most of the oxygen in the earth’s atmosphere.
Growing in the mineral-rich equilibrium of the ocean, seaweed is dense with the same minerals found within – and needed by – the body, such as sodium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorous and more. In addition, Brittany algae is also rich in phyco-colloids, a natural emollient that soothes dry skin and is also used by hospitals for its wound-healing properties.

Spa Shiki seaweed is harvested from Brittany, the westernmost peninsula of France, an area with one of the richest concentrations of marine vegetation in the world. More than 800 species of seaweed cover the continental shelf. Reaching an average of 38 to 40 feet, sometimes at the speed of a galloping horse, the changing tides that irrigate the Brittany coast are among the highest in the world. This irrigation every six hours assures a constant exchange of nutrients and prevents stagnation. It also creates aeration of the waters enriching it with oxygen.

Ready to slough off dry skin? Combine Spa Shiki’s Four Seasons Exfoliation with the Seaweed Detox Body Mask.
Step One: Four Seasons Exfoliation, 25 minutes, $60. A Spa Shiki massage therapist will combine exfoliating Dead Sea salts with essential oils (your choice of Rosemary & Peppermint, Citrus Salts, Rose & Chamomile or Lavender), then massage the mixture over the body in brisk, circular motions. The treatment deeply cleanses and exfoliates the skin and stimulates circulation. An exhilarating, contrasting hot and cold Vichy shower rinse leaves you glowing.
Step Two: Seaweed Detox Body Mask, 50 minutes, $80. Throughout Europe, seaweed has been known for rebalancing effects on the body. This detoxifying and nourishing mask is rich in white and green laminaria, known to promote cellular metabolism, rebalance, re-mineralize the skin and activate circulation.
